Round 5 Match Reports

by / Friday, 11 December 2015 / Published in Club News, Senior Club

1st XI vs. Avondale Heights

Two wins on the trot now for the ones is the much needed momentum we need going into the final game before Christmas against Craigieburn. We lost the toss in Week One and was sent into bowl first. It was a frustrating day as wickets were not regularly falling, some poor fielding resulting in dropped catches and some umpiring decisions not going in favour of us. Greaney took 2 wickets, whilst Pantland, Salman, Goody and Sameera took 1 each.

Week Two we had the target of 242 to chase. It looked worrying early as we lost Phil, Brad and Nayana before we made 50. Keegan Stanley and Tim Stephens provided a solid partnership that we needed scoring over 100. They scored 39 & 56 respectively. The winning runs came in the end by Nick Pantland and Ray Schwarze who both remained unbeaten on 38* and 46*. Next match is a massive game against Craigieburn as they are in a similar position to us with points on the A1 table

2nd XI @ Avondale Heights:

An absolute clinic was put on over the two days by the seconds boys. Winning the toss and batting first we posted a huge score of 5/296 after only 56 overs. Tariq and Chris Pipe who returns to the Roys for his first game of the summer were our major run scorers (95 & 79) whilst captain Tony Doolan scored an unbeaten 34*. The declaration was made. In unbelievable scenes, we bowled out Avondale Heights for 42 in 7 overs. Jason Blake took 5 wickets and Lach Ronaldson 2. In the second week we got the runs we needed early declaring once again at 5/214 with a 468 run lead. Khawar was our best bat scoring 89 while Tony again unbeaten on 47. The wickets again fell quickly and we bowled out Avondale Heights for 82. Lachy and Will Lamont took 3 wickets while Mash was the other wicket taker. A huge outright win for the 2’s saw us score over 19 points and catapulted us straight into 4th spot.

3rd XI @ Taylors Lakes:

Truth be told, a very poor loss by the 3rds this match. Week one we were sent into bowl. Our fielding was well below par and it cost us in the end with Taylors Lakes scoring 211 when we could of quite easily kept them under 150. Matt Nicolin and Ben Schwarze were the main wicket takers with 4 each. Week Two we were already one down loosing Shags in Week One. It did not get any better either with all batsmen having an absolute shocker on the day. We were eventually all out for 91, loosing by 120 runs. It’s definitely not the standard at all for the 3’s blokes this year and we must hit back hard in our last game before Christmas against Altona North

One Day – Gold vs. St Andrews:

A WIN FOR THE GOLD SIDE! The Gold boys get the first win of their season against St Andrews. Winning the toss we batted first. It didn’t look great as we were bowled out for 145 off only 25 overs. Jake Goldsmith and Brendan Lucas were our main scorers with 34 and 37. St Andrews were cruising but then it all fell apart, bowling them out for 135. Ehsan 2 wickets and singles to Jake, Mick, Dave Dean and Raza.

One Day – Red @ East Coburg:

Another consolidating win for the red side who only had about 8 players. Winning the toss and batting we posted 4/248. Goggs returned with a big knock (79) while Mick King (69) and Vaughan Garner (67) scoring big also. Into bowl and East Coburg made 8/177 in their alotted overs. Mick Pataki took 4 wickets, Brandan Hyatt with 2 and 1 to Shep

4/5 seniors wins ain’t bad at all. The juniors are doing well also with the U/14’s last match scoring 444 runs!

Don’t forget our Christmas party is on the 19th of December!
