1st XI @ Westmeadows:

The ones are finally on the board with a W against the highly fancied Westmeadows side. In Week one we lost the toss and had to bowl. Nick Pantland got us off to a great start taking 2 wickets early on. The other bowlers struggled to get line and lengths right. Salman Rasool who was a debutant for the ones came on for his spell and made an immediate impact taking 2 wickets in 3 balls. Salman and Goody took 4 wickets each with Pants taking the other 2. We bowled out Westmeadows for 140. We had to face 22 overs with Westy’s gun recruit, ex- Sri Lankan test player Chanaka Welegedara tearing us to shreds. We lost 5 for 60 at Stumps with Phil King not out. In Week Two we gritted our teeth as best we could and we prevailed! Kingy scored a gritty 57 who also did cop some lusty blows from Welegedara and a match winning innings by Nick Pantland scoring 37. Westmeadows went back into bat to try and maximize their points with the day ending up at 3/78. A great win by Roys

2nd XI vs. Westmeadows:

Week one saw us loosing the toss and fielding first. Jason Blake took 2 wickets and the club welcomed back Will Lamont and Bill Clendenning who respectively took 3 and 1 wicket each. Peter Shephard and Zahoor were our other wicket takers with 2 and 1. We bowled out Westmeadows for 205 and had to face 10 overs in the evening. Ben Coote and Peter Shephard opened. Unfortunately during the batting, Shep pulled his hamstring. They remained in and we were 0/14 at Stumps. Unfortunately in the second week we were unable to play as water got under the covers and the wicket was deemed unsafe to play on. Captains shook hands and the match was declared a draw.

3rd XI vs St Bernard’s OC

Overall this match was a game of patches of good spurts. Loosing the toss we were sent into the field to bowl. It was an absolute batsman’s paradise. St Bernard’s were cruising at one stage after some missed chances in the field but then a flurry of wickets fell lead by Matt Nicolin which gave us the momentum back for a period of time. We had not fielded a whole day yet this season and after the 50 over mark it took its toll with players becoming tired and leaking vital runs. Matt Nicolin was our leading wicket taker taking 4. Lachie Ronaldson returned for his first game of the season. Flipper was very unlucky to only get 2 wickets as he bowled superbly all day. Singles to Asad and Dave Dean. St Bernard’s ended up 9/216 at stumps. Week two saw the pitch doing plenty early on. A new opening partnership with Bryce Long and Cam Stevens saw them stay until the first drinks break. Lachie Ronaldson and Nathan Baxter consolidated and made a great partnership before it was broken with Lachie bowled on 29. Baxter and Danny made a new partnership but that ended also with Baxter out on 28. In the end we were running out of time needing a run a ball. Danny kept loosing partners frequently until Tux came in. They made a gritty partnership but a direct hit in the field saw Tux run out. In the end we were bowled out for 178. Inexperience in the situation of the match was mainly our reason for the loss but this side will learn from their mistakes from this match and certainly will bounce back!

One Day – Gold vs Sunshine Heights:

We haven’t heard much information from this match but we had suffered another defeat. Next match we play against East Coburg.

One Day – Red @ Royal Park Reds

An excellent win by the boys as we were short on numbers. We defeated the Royal Park Reds quite comprehensively. Winning the toss and batting first it was the Mick Pataki and Mick King show. Pataki hit the first century for the Roys for this season. Mick King hit 77. We ended up 3/237. We bowled and Mick King again was a hit with the ball taking 4 wickets. 2 to Vaughan Garner and Brandon Hyatt and 1 to Cooper Reid. The Red side have a BYE this week
